The Age of Stupid - animated sequence making of

There was an amazing animated sequence to accompany a description of the history of war in The Age of Stupid.

It seems very like The Tale of How by The Black Heart Gang too! How lovely! The method of animating seems very doable, even for illustrators! Especially the way the sea was made.

This animated short film blew me away by the amazing Nina Paley.
Beautiful, captivating, hilarious and educating. Well worth a watch.
You can watch the whole film for free on the address above, really good quality.

Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by e-mail. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920’s jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as “The Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told.”

Hope you enjoy

"Cabinet of Curiosity - a Graveyard Romance" by Alec Chalmers and Rosemary Knowles.

Flatpack Festival 3 - Installation Trail #2, Up and Running shop window, Temple Street.
Showing until 15th March!

The brief was to create an installation and film to feature in a shop window. The theme was early cinema. This was the general treatment we submitted:

"A deceased couple awaken from the ‘big sleep’ to reminisce, possibly through dance, the ups and downs of their relationship."

See the full proposal and our process here.

We created the animation using a effect that could be described as a living collage. We liked the idea of re-using material to make something new, which fits with our theme of coming back to life!

Above is the animation in its installation context. As you can see it would be much better to see it in the flesh! See it quick before it disappears on the 15th! Up and Running is a running shop opposite Swordfish Records just off New Street.
